So…Where Do Be Good Monster Earrings Come From?

So…where do Be Good Monster earrings come from?

If you’ve ever ordered a pair of Be Good Monster earrings, you might have wondered where they come from.

Do tiny monsters run a jewelry factory somewhere?

Not exactly.

Most of the time it’s just me in my kitchen turning sheets of plastic into tiny wearable creatures. Here’s how it happens.

Step 1: Start with the raw materials

Every pair of earrings starts with a few simple supplies:

  • shrink film sheets
  • earring posts
  • resin
  • cardstock for the final packaging

Shrink film is a special kind of plastic that shrinks and thickens when heated. It’s basically magic for turning drawings into tiny, durable pieces of jewelry.

Step 2: Print the monsters

First I print sheets of my monster designs onto the shrink film.

At this stage they look a little oversized, which is intentional. Once the plastic shrinks, the designs will become much smaller and thicker.

Think of it as drawing the monsters in their giant form before they transform.

Step 3: Cut them out

Next the designs get cut out.

A cutting machine traces around each monster so every little character ends up with a clean outline. Once the cutting is finished, the sheet pops apart into dozens of tiny monster shapes.

But they’re still not earrings yet.

They still need to shrink.

Step 4: Time for the magic shrinking

This is the part that feels the most like science class.

The cut pieces go into the oven where the shrink film curls, twists, and suddenly shrinks down to about one-third of its original size.

When it settles back down, the plastic is thicker, stronger, and the monsters are now the perfect size for earrings.

Step 5: Add a coat of resin

Once the pieces have cooled, I brush on a thin coat of resin.

This does two things:

• protects the artwork
• gives the earrings a glossy finish

It also makes the colors pop and gives the monsters a little extra personality.

Step 6: Attach the earring posts

After the resin cures, I attach the metal earring posts to the back of each monster.

Everything is done by hand in small batches, which means every pair gets a quick inspection before moving on to the final step.

Step 7: Package the tiny monsters

Finally the earrings get mounted on Be Good Monster display cards so they’re ready for markets, shops, or shipping out to their new homes.

And that’s it.

A sheet of plastic, a few drawings, and a bit of heat become a pair of tiny monster earrings.

Handmade in the Be Good Monster studio

Like the t-shirts, every pair of earrings is made in small batches. From printing to shrinking to packaging, the whole process happens right here in my home studio.

No monster factories.

Just one human and a lot of tiny monsters.
